Example of a 14 days trip suitable for a family: Safari, Culture and Beach. The area chosen for this trip is KwaZulu-Natal. From Durban and northwards to the border of Mozambique. Day 1-3: Arrival Durban, the cultural capital of South Africa, in the morning. Accommodation at one of the most popular beach areas: Umhlanga Rocks, 15 minutes north of Durban city center. The town is very child-friendly. There are possibilities to go on dolphin- and whale-safari, trip to sharks center and aquarium, and a trip to Durban city center. There are several great restaurants within walking distance of the accommodation. (B) Day 4-5: Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, the oldest reserve in Africa, searching for "The Big Five" (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo). Overnight in chalet at Hilltop Camp. The camp is in the middle of the reserve, and one can easily take breaks from the game viewing. The chalet has two bedrooms, kitchen and living room. The camp also has a swimming pool and a playground. Zebras might keep you company. A day on safari is a long day. Typically a safari-day starts early in the morning: This is the time of day you are most likely to spot animals. After a few hours on safari you return to camp for a wholesome brunch. In the middle of the day it is often too hot both for animals and humans, so maybe head back to camp for lounging around the swimming pool. In the afternoon you go out for another safari. Time and place is often forgotten when a herd of elephants is blocking the road! (B/D) Day 6-7: Pongola Game Reserve: Sundowner boat cruise on the Jozini-dam and elephant tracking is on the agenda. (B/L/D) Day 8-9: After breakfast you continue your journey to one of the most interesting places in South Africa: St. Lucia. Boat cruise among hippos and crocodiles. Overnight at friendly guesthouse of high standard. Day 10: Time to get to know the Zulu nation. Travel to an authentic Zulu-village. Zulu warriors welcome you and show you around the village. You will experience Zulu-dancing, spear throwing and you meet the local chief of the village. Overnight in traditional huts, family room. Tasteful Zulu-food is served. (B) Day 11-13: Back to the start-off point: Durban. (B) Day 14: Departure from Durban in the afternoon. |
