Here are 10 good reasons why you should visit South Africa:

  1. CULTURE AND HISTORY: South Africa has a strong and unique history. A visit to Robben island or some of the country's museums gives you an insight into this. South Africa offers exciting cultures. We recommend visiting one of the Townships either in Cape Towm, Durban or Soweto to get an impression of the contrasts in the country.
  2. CAPE TOWN: Cape Town is one of the most popular holiday resorts in the world. Some say it is the world's most beautiful. With Table Mountain as a backdrop, the city lies there as "a piece of Europe in Africa". You'll find plenty of things to see in Cape Town and the surrounding area, with wine tasting, Cape Good Hope, Table Mountain, Robben Island and maybe some museums or some relaxation on one of the beautiful beaches.
  3. SAFARI: Travel on the Big Five safari at fantastic lodges, in some of the world's most famous national parks and reserves. Kruger National Park is the most famous area, but also in KwaZulu-Natal you can go to unique parks and reserves.
  4. NATURE: South Africa offers breathtaking scenery! Go hiking in Drakensberg or at the Blyde River Canyon.
  5. VINLAND: The grape pioneer, is one of South Africa's great pride. Enjoy wine tasting at one of the world-famous vineyards of Fraschhoek or Stellenboch.
  6. BEACH: Beach holidays in Durban and Cape Town are very popular in the hot months. If you want to snorkel or see the turtles, we recommend traveling to Thonga (from November - March). If you want to go on a whale safari, we recommend traveling to Hermanus.
  7. GARDEN-ROUTE: The so-called Garden Route stretches from Mossel Bay to Storms River. This is a really beautiful car trip with great nature experiences.
  8. ROVOS RAIL: Rovos Rail is run by Rohan Vos, a fiery soul who restored the classic train The Pride of Africa - the world's most luxurious train. The train carries a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 comfortable suites. All the carriages are classic and returned to perfection. The train has included an exclusive train carriage with free bar and beautiful restaurant carriages from 1924 and 1936.

Cape Town offers courses with the most stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful mountains of the wine country. Further north you will find paths out in the bush, where you should be prepared for a giraffe or an antelope to pass on your way around the golf course.
  10. HUMAN ROCK: At Cradle of Humankind, north of Johannesburg, you visit the cradle of humanity. This World Heritage Site includes 474 km² and contains several limestone caves and is home to about 40% of our human ancestors!

There is a safari season all year round and it is easy to combine safaris with big city, beach and culture. The country has many public national parks and private wildlife reserves. All safari areas are fenced in South Africa. This is to prevent conflict between animals and humans.

Kruger is one of the world's most famous safari destinations, known for the world's most diverse wildlife. Even in Kruger there are private parks. Sabi Sands is the most exclusive area, known for its many leopards. In KwaZulu-Natal you get more scenic and different safaris. Hluhluwe-Umfolozi is the oldest national park in South Africa, and iSimangaliso Wetland Park is one of the most unique areas in southern Africa. Here you can go on a safari without malaria medicine and here the possibilities are many if you want to combine a safari with a beach holiday (either at Thonga Beach Lodge, the coast of Mozambique or in Durban).

WHEN TO TRAVEL TO SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa can be visited all year round, but the climate can be very different in summer and winter. Summer in South Africa starts in November and lasts until February / March. Then it is usually warm all over the country and lots of sun and rain. The landscape is lush, this is the best time for newborns and swimming along the beaches of Durban and Cape Town.

The period May to August is winter and the coldest season in South Africa. Then there is drying time in the north and wet in the south. These are the best times to go on a safari to see The Big Five with more active animals, more agile temperature and fewer visitors to the parks.
