Mozambique borders South Africa, Eswatini and Zimbabwe to the west, and Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania to the north. To the east, Mozambique has a long coastline facing the Indian Ocean. Mozambique has a rich wildlife, with 232 mammal species and 740 different birds.

The tourism industry is growing and Mozambique has aimed to have a limited tourism industry in the top tier rather than cheap mass tourism. This means that there are fewer and more exclusive places.
